Description:
Large, stout pipit with variably streaked upperparts and breast, unstreaked flanks. Considerably larger than Tawny, with very large bill and shorter-looking legs. Dark lores. Greyish upperparts and warm buff colour to unstreaked or only lightly streaked underparts. Undulating circling display flight.
Distribution:
Possible resident in the south-western border areas of Diamer and Ghizer districts. Usually inhabits lowlands to 2600m on rocky hillsides with sparse cover; winters on grassy plains, sparsely scrubbed country, fields and sand dunes.
Behavior:
Forages mainly on the ground; also picks prey items from vegetation and branches. Often feeds on recently burnt ground. Feeds on insects and other small invertebrates, also seeds; grit also ingested. Diet includes grasshoppers and crickets, beetles, bugs, mantids, cockroaches, termites, ants and wasps, larval and adult moths and spiders.
